Brassed Off

No I'm not really. It's just too good a title not to usurp for my own nefarious purposes! Go rent it right now (especially you euphonium lovers out there ;)!

Saw the Rankin Family in concert at TCU today, and they were most excellent. The only downer was the the audience was a bit on the geriatric side, which, while fine, even expected in itself, resulted in the energy of the audience fell significantly short of matching the energy of the group. Some of their tunes just require that you get up and dance (hence the descriptor 'toe-tapping'). Amazing how they can take a song as burdened with cheesy sentiment as "We Rise Again" and turn it into something stirring. That Raylene just CLOBBERED the high A in that song too (in a good way). Plus they had the 19 y/o daughter of John Morris Rankin accompanying them on vocals, guitar and fiddle. Not to mention that the ladies, nearly 50, can still step-dance up a storm. WOOOOT!
Good thing TCU has great sight lines and acoustics (*cough*Jubilee sucks*cough*),as I was stuck back in row Y (out of Z) on main floor. Tickets weren't cheap either.

Oddly enough, when I got home, still singing various Rankitunes, I found my range hadn't actually diminished any the way it usually does over the course of the day. Low C all the way through alto G. Where the heck was that when I needed it? (choking on my favorite note, the D flat in 'Amor de mi Alma'. Lauren knows what I mean.

My passport came in! The final piece of the puzzle has, like the Eagle, landed. TWO WEEKS til UK, SPAIN, and Steve! woot!

I ate all my roommate's cookies - you think he'll hate me if I buy him a box twice as big?

Our class is united in our mutual disgruntledness over our Pharm instructor. Let it just be said, lady needs to take a chill pill downed with Sunny D. Mayhap they might have foreseen that lots of people would leave early for spring break and thus not lay a phony guilt trip on us for being 'unprofessional' and missing her retardedly scheduled midterm? Bah.

Je cherches les skis! For X-country here in Stoon, though the weather is varying wildly from +6 to -20. On the upside, the weather report for the Sierra Nevadas in Espana dice que la montana~ tiene fresh snow, so ski vacation is saved.

After my Nutrition exam, and since I won't be writing the aforementioned Pharm calculations midterm, I'll be brushing up on my Spanish instead. It seems I'll be talking for two come spring break - huzzah!

Thank ya Lauren, you guys are gonna be great ;) You'll have to swap stories after. I've ordered an actual proper copy of Butterfly from Sulasol, thanks to a friend in Toronto, so clue me as to how plans are progressing for your recital as I'd still be excited to contribute.

I also have a song or two from Dawn Langstroth, who opened for the Rankins, that I think you'd really like.

Hey Stewart, my recital plans are pretty much solidified, but we haven't started rehearsing yet. We'll be doing Weary in Well-Doing and VoiceDance (in that order). We'll be practicing on tour mostly, so if you could look at the music on your own time and then rehearse with us a couple times once we get back, that'd be awesome. I can arrange to get you a copy of VoiceDance if you don't have one, which I'm assuming you don't.

Take care, and talk to you soon!

Hey Laur, that sounds great, good choices! lol I learned Voicedance last term, a copy wouldn't hurt, but I still have the audio file of it, so I can sing along with that. When is the exact date of the recital, so I can mark it down. I'll be there for any and all practice you need once we're both back from break. Can't wait!! Have a wicked time - Stew
